Authentic Home is proud to announce an ongoing partnership with Seattle-based Sojourner Place, a non-profit organization that provides housing and support for women in need. The program caters to homeless, economically or emotionally oppressed women in transition who are motivated to get back on their feet as they overcome obstacles. The Authentic Home team, lead by company founder Kathy Banak, will offer home décor expertise and volunteer strength to bring color and beauty to Sojourner Place and its residents.
Housing up to 20 women at a time, the goal of Sojourner Place residents is to leave with the skills needed to live a successful and independent life. Women who are accepted into Sojourner Place live there for up to a year while they work or take classes. Sojourner Place provides a room and meals, plus structure, life-skill classes and goal-oriented counseling – but for all of this, they receive no government funding, and rely solely upon the good will and support of individuals.
When Kathy first became familiar with Sojourner Place, the 1910 home faced an aging interior space, but no funds to make the much needed improvements to their safe “haven.” Sojourner Place Director KC Young believed a warm and comfortable home would have a positive effect on the women who lived there, and she began spearheading a transformation.
Touched by KC’s efforts and goals for the home, Kathy immediately offered her help and support for the project. After selecting a custom color palette for Sojourner Place, Kathy organized a force of volunteers to paint the homes interior, and donated all of the Authentic Home COLOR Paint™ for the project. In just a few short hours, and many paint brushes later, the transitional housing rooms at Sojourner Place went from worn down walls to a fresh, peaceful sanctuary where women can heal.
In the future, Kathy and the Authentic Home team will offer ongoing support to Sojourner Place by providing interior style guidance and man hours to keep the place in top shape, and in accord with an ambiance of hope.
