Design Expert Offers Tips for Redecorating in the New Year

Seattle, Washington – Welcoming in 2008 is hectic, and the stress continues as we think about getting a jump start on New Year’s resolutions. To accomplish goals the right way, we go to experts: Jenny Craig for weight loss, doctors to help quit smoking and Kathy Banak for redecorating the home.
“The New Year is a perfect time to evaluate what is and is not working with the current color palette in your home,” said Kathy Banak, a Seattle area interior design and color consultant, and president of Authentic Home, Ltd. “You can easily create a space that reflects who you are, and the color choice is where to begin.”
Banak explained, “The process starts by deciding what mood you want to evoke in the space that is being redesigned.” Kathy created a line of paint to reflect different moods and to make the design process easier for her customers. Authentic Home paints come in three vignettes: Elegant, Playful, and Serene. 20 colors are in each vignette, totaling 60 colors to choose from. Focusing on mood allows the homeowner to concentrate on select colors. Kathy says Authentic Home was born from the “less is more” school of thought.
“Next, consider the natural light throughout the space,” explains Banak. Colors can look very different during the day then at night, so viewing them at all times of the day is important. She also notes color should be used on ceilings, doors and trims for a cohesive look.
Banak encourages, “Be a guest in your own home. This helps you stay focused on the flow and feeling of the space.” She believes these tips can help ease the design transition, but stresses that the most important thing is to have fun.

In addition to gallon and quart sizes, Authentic Home COLOR Paint ™ is available in two-ounce COLOR Cups which allow customers to take the paint home and sample the color and quality. The paint line is low VOC and can also be purchased in an eco-friendly no VOC version.
The paint comes in three finish options: Matte – a flat finish; Buffed – a durable eggshell luster; and Polished – a semi-gloss finish.
