Fresh Transformation

This 1915 home, which sits on a small hill with a western exposure, was in much need of an exterior paint job. The client wanted the home to have an updated curb appeal while keeping in with the age of the home. The Authentic Home Team created a new exterior color palette selected the Authentic Home COLOR Paint™ in Burgundy for the body of the home, and our Champagne and Milk Chocolate paint colors for the inset window and top railing color.

Exterior Presence

This new construction project was located in an upscale city neighborhood. The exterior paint goal was to highlight the beautiful Northwest architecture while maximizing street appeal for potential buyers. The Authentic Home COLOR Paint™ in Pewter was selected for the body color on all materials in order to deliver a cohesive look and make the home appear as large as possible. To accent, Champagne paint was used on the trim and the door was painted in warm Brick as a much needed focal point.

Kathy Banak Gives An Exterior New Life

Exterior Before

Exterior After- Rodda Paints (Main) & Authentic Home’s Champagne on Ice (Trim)

The dramatic transformation of the exterior house and gardens has given a new life to this tired estate.  It was a leap of faith to paint all the natural beams and trim wood here in the Northwest yet my client was determine to lighten it up so it felt more like a English cottage home.  And the Authentic Home Champagne on Ice color was selected to do the trick.  I selected a Steel Blue body color by Rodda Paint and Authentic Home Glacier door color to complement the sculptured garden and lush florals and greens throughout the estate.

Pairing the cool toned paint with the rich Authentic Home trim color brought new life into this otherwise darker space. The existing gazebo area adorns Brown Jordan silver leaf furniture and Maria Flora fabrics for the cushions.  The home and garden is truly a peaceful sanctuary to relax and unwind in after a long day. Kathy’s client’s backyard was in need of color and life so she created a beautiful focal point that she can experience daily from the house.  A row of Yew trees provide a lush backdrop for the garden and new sculpture feature that is soften with variegated dogwoods and rose colored hydrangeas.   Blue stone set in a circular pattern is the foundation for a hand crafted Tulip custom made Fireworks Forge set on a limestone pillar by Haddonstone.

Casually Elegant Kitchen Design

The homeowners of a 1938 Georgian Colonial home were ready to remodel their 10-year old kitchen for a casually elegant design with a more functional layout. The outdated oak cabinets, tile countertops and dark colors didn’t reflect the family’s outgoing personality and they were desperate for a change. The client’s most important requests included a larger island and additional seating for their family of four. New linen colored custom alder cabinets were installed in the new kitchen. The island base was made from the same material and stained a dark brown/black color. Structurally, the dropped ceiling was raised and custom oak beams were mounted on the new ceiling to provide a more casual appearance. An enclosed sunroom was the only addition to the home’s east facing kitchen wall, which created a much needed larger dining area. Authentic Home COLOR Paint™ in Glacier and Champagne was used on the walls and ceilings to continue the comfortable, cool feel.

Fantasy Bedroom

This five year old girl’s bedroom was in desperate need of color and new furniture after Mom realized that her daughter was growing out of her little bed. After meeting with my young client for the first time, I quickly learned that her favorite colors were purple and pink and I found a whimsical floral and bird fabric by Osborne & Little to launch the color palette for the room. Both her parents wanted the décor to evolve with her as she grows into a teenager so I selected the floral chandelier, the bedside lamps, chest and pink chaise with a pre-teen girl in mind. Authentic Home COLOR Paint in Light Lavender was used on the walls and Ocean Mist was used on the ceiling. The complementary seafoam green headboard, storage chest, area rug and ceiling paint color beautifully tie the room together. Mom loves the room so much that she is often found napping on the bed on weekends. I was thrilled to be part of this exciting transformation of a “white” box into my young client’s fantasy bedroom.

Room to Grow Bedroom

This 12-year old female client wanted her bedroom to reflect her current age, as well as bring her into her early twenties. The room had a southwest exposure to the Puget Sound and the client’s request was to design a space that maximized the views, as well as to create extra storage throughout the room and a special place to read, do homework or just gaze out at the amazing views. Unfortunately, the small room contained three separate doorways leading to the bathroom, closet and hallway, which meant there was very little wall space to work with. To compensate for that, we created a unique living space that featured a window seat and storage unit, which accomplished both of our main redesign objectives. A new walk-in closet was created adjacent to the window seat for ample storage for this growing teen. Authentic Home COLOR Paint™ in Lemongrass and Lavender were selected to coordinate with a floral print used on the window seat and bedding pillows.

The earthy feel of the master bathroom was conveyed with the pebble backsplash and shower floor material and incorporated into the custom “pebble” area rug.  The three shower head shower and oversized Jacuzzi tub definitely make this bathroom the master “spa”.

Modern Townhome Dining Room

This contemporary, three-floor townhome was in need of some emergency paint help. Owned by a young urban couple, they had already worked with three designers and were left with a bright yellow wall color throughout the entire main floor. They were unhappy with the hue and it negatively impacted their moods and behaviors. Working with the existing black, white and grey-patterned draperies, the Authentic Home COLOR Paint™ in Pewter was selected to infuse the space with a young, contemporary and urban feel. Furniture, area rugs, lighting and art work with red accents were also brought into the space, and the result was the talk of the townhomes!

Before & After

Rustic Vacation Home Dining Room

It was very important to the couple that their entire extended family celebrate holidays at the home and therefore the dining table needed to seat 20 comfortably. Paul Jackson, a wood artist and former boat maker, hand-made the custom dining room table which is made of three different wood types; Wenge, Sapele and Moabi. The work of art has two center leaves and two bread board extensions on either end and seats 20 comfortably. The armless high back chairs were upholstered with a Robert Allen woven fabric and the waterfall photo opposite the furniture hutch was taken by a family member. The custom Ralph Lauren roman shades, the candelabra chandelier by Justice Design, the custom nature inspired Masland area rug, and the Café Au Lait colored paint by Authentic Home, instantly provide warmth to the room.

Feminine Living Room

When you walk into this 1940’s home the living room is front and center, and the female client wanted it to be more soft and feminine. The Authentic Home COLOR Paint™ in Light Parchment was selected for the walls and Light Sage for the ceiling. To complement the space, a bone-colored round back leather and chenille sofa, soft green silk custom drapes and custom striped silk table skirt were also added to the room. A pewter chair with matching bone and soft green fabrics and a mirrored coffee table make the room perfect for entertaining.

Living Room with a View of the Sound

The couple of this 1930’s split level home wanted a more contemporary feel to their entire home especially since the wife recently retired. Tom Fine of Fine Construction headed up the project while Kathy provided aesthetic guidance with the selection of the interior materials for the kitchen and living rooms including the furnishings. The scope of work consisted of removing a main wall between the living room and the kitchen and dining room and the removal of several windows so to take advantage of the beautiful sound views. Authentic Home COLOR Paint in Grey Stone, Lemongrass, Ocean Mist and Champagne on Ice were used throughout the home.

Contemporary Living Room

This contemporary, three-floor townhome was in need of some authenticity. Owned by a young urban couple, the home’s décor did not reflect their lifestyle or personalities and they came to Authentic Home to create a space with a more playful and modern feel. The bright yellow paint color throughout the entire main floor was negatively affecting the couple’s moods and behavior, and they were ready for a drastic change. The Authentic Home COLOR Paint™ in Pewter was applied to the walls to bring a more contemporary and grounding feel to the space. The existing draperies featured colors of black, white, grey and red and became the inspiration for the new furniture, area rugs, lighting, art work and accessory colors.

Rustic Vacation Home Grand Entry

A Grand Entry The 20 foot high ceilings make the entry a truly grand space. The couple wanted it to make a statement with the size of it as well as show their personalities with the décor. Incorporating natural materials, like a locally found wood beam and barn board material, make the space feel like you are outdoors. Upon entering the home you can’t help notice the photos of local Madrona trees, taken by a family member, the weathered ten foot sideboard and oversized tortoise lamp with drum shade all which provide a casual and comfortable feel to guests. Authentic Home COLOR Paint in Café Au Lait was used on the walls to make the large entry feel warm and inviting.

Rustic Vacation Home Living Room

The heart of the home is the great room which consists of living, kitchen and dining area. The large stone fireplace is the focal point of the living room and is adored by several two story windows which face the first hole of one of the resorts golf courses. A semi-circular shaped sofa was custom made in a striped Authentic Home chenille and leather fabric and is perfect for entertaining or watching TV. The hand-made custom rock coffee and side tables, from a Montana quarry, brings nature indoors and is the perfect addition to the rustic room. The family loves games and purchased a unique game table with inlaid Italian wood designs while in Italy several years ago. Authentic Home COLOR Paint in Camel was used for the walls to give the room a warm, comfortable feel.

PNW Fireplace Family Room

The large metallic fireplace tile, by Statements Tile, is centered between the knotty alder bookcases to create a focal point for this family room.  The metallic tile finish reflects the natural light and enhances the balance of all the other colors of this comfortable family room. It’s the perfect place to cozy up with a good book, maintaining the warm, inviting feel that all living spaces should have.

Peaceful Bedroom Retreat

I recently had a client just outside of Seattle who was looking to brighten and refresh her bedroom space. It’s been said that when you wake up in a clutter free, fresh, calming space, it can set the tone for the rest of your day. It was with this project that I kept this in mind, wanting to create a tranquil, peaceful, and zen-like place for my client to retreat to whenever she deemed necessary.

The previous bedroom was simply decorated, with a neutral, yet cool color palette. While this bedroom had an overall calming feel to it, the space needed just a bit of TLC to really pull it together.  The beautiful roof line of this home adds visual interest to this bedroom, and the simple baseboards and paned window details provided the perfect clean palate to work with.

A fresh, bright and clean color palate is the perfect way in which you can create a calming, restful, and peaceful bedroom space. The beauty of using soft colors is that it is timeless, classic, and approachable while maintaining a richness that will carry over for years to come.

It now has a zen-like retreat feel, perfect for everyday life!

Modern Zen Powder Room

This powder room, original to the home, featured a corner shower, standalone vanity and pink wall paint. The client desired a dramatic change to transform their outdated design to a more modern, earthy feel. We kicked off the remodel with the removal of the shower, since it was rarely used by the client and opened up the space to install a larger vanity. The custom black vanity and complementing black pearl granite countertop grounded the room and provided the much needed weight to house the stone vessel sink. The Authentic Home COLOR Paint™ in Dark Glacier was selected for the wall color. The etched wave-patterned sconces, custom mirror frame and black grass weave roman shade all completed the look of this new powder room.

Serene Master Closet

My clients had recently moved from California and desperately wanted to remodel their 1970’s master bathroom so to take advantage of the magnificent view of south Puget Sound. The large bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub, double sink vanity with small cabinet drawers, an enclosed shower and toilet and a walk-in closet that all simply needed to be updated and redesigned.  My clients preferred a shower over a tub so we made the focal point of the room the view and designed a large shower adorned with three shower heads and stone pebbles on the shower floor in front of an 8’ x 8’ window.  They also wanted to bring the natural colors of nature into the space so I created a color palette of warm green, tan and beige colors.  A new linen cabinet was designed and the vanity countertop is a Seafoam green granite.  Other design features include inset medicine cabinets with wall sconces on either side, a new half wall that provides privacy for the toilet area, a large walk in closet with new build in cabinets and the same tile as in the bath area, an exterior retractable window shade and double pocket doors to the master bedroom really make the space feel like a hotel en-suite bathroom.
